Types of bed linens

Fabric choices for sheets

Do you want a good night’s rest?  It may depend on the type of bed linens you use on your bed.  Good quality products will last longer and will also soothe you for a restful slumber.  Whether you want the luxury of silk, the crisp feel of cotton, the economy of blended fabrics, or the warmth of flannel.  Here are some of the factors when considering a purchase.

Cotton is the most common fabric for sheets.  The greater the thread count, the better the quality of the sheets.  Cotton is easy to care for and can be cleaned by using the washing machine and a mild detergent.

On the other hand, polyester sheets are cleaned by the same method, but may not offer the same luxury.  These sheets are usually more inexpensive than other sheets.  However, the materials used in this type of fabric may irritate allergies.

Silk sheets are made of natural fibers which make them lightweight and durable.  They are cool in summer as moisture is wicked away from the body, and they are warm in winter as warm air is trapped by the fibers.  Another advantage of silk is that it is naturally hypoallergenic.

The flannel sheet is a great move for anyone needing warmth in the winter.  Flannel sheets can be of cotton or wool or a blend of the two.  The weight of the sheets are determined in ounces unlike plain cotton sheets.  The higher grade is the heavier one.
